Political Sign Restrictions

The Supervisor of Elections has no jurisdiction over the placement of political signs, except for maintaining the “No-Solicitation Zone” when Vote-by-Mail ballots are being issued at the Supervisor of Elections offices during Early Voting and on Election Day. The Supervisor of Elections does not have the authority to investigate complaints of alleged violations of Florida Statute regarding political signs. Depending on the nature of the violation, complaints regarding political signs should be directed to the Florida Elections Commission or to the local law enforcement agency where the violation occurred.

No-Solicitation Zone

Political signs may not be placed within 150 feet of the entrance to any polling place, or polling room where the polling place is also a polling room, or early voting site, or secure ballot intake station (formerly drop box). Before the opening of the polling place or early voting site, the clerk or supervisor shall designate the no-solicitation zone and mark the boundaries (s. 102.031(4)(a), F.S.).  Here is the link to our page with maps of the no-solicitation zone for each polling place and early voting site.

Signs Placed in Municipalities and Special Districts

Concerns about political signs posted within a municipality or special district should be directed to the appropriate municipal entity. Each municipality addresses the posting of political signs by ordinance or in their respective municipal charters. For your convenience, the VoteBrevard.gov website provides links to each City, Town and Special District website in Brevard County.  Here is contact information for the various municipalities and special districts.

DUE TO THE CONTINUALLY CHANGING NATURE OF CITY SIGN RESTRICTIONS, CONTACT THE CITY OR TOWN IN WHICH YOU ARE PLACING YOUR SIGNS TO VERIFY THEIR REQUIREMENTS, BEFORE PLACING SIGNS IN A MUNICIPALITY. SOME MUNICIPALITIES REQUIRE THE POSTING OF A SIGN BOND.
